Among the vineyards of Sonoma County, lies Petaluma, California. Once The Egg Capital of the World; now dubbed Telecom Valley, Petaluma is home to Holly Solar Products. With a 4800 square foot facility, teeming with an array of tools, materials and insight, Holly Solar is not just a manufacturer and solutions provider but think-tank, research laboratory and design house.

Holly Solar Products + Suntronics was founded in 1974 by Bill Hollibaugh with the introduction of The Holly Hydro Heater. The Holly Hydro was a stainless-steel water jacket that heated water in Stanley-Waterford and Vermont Castings Cook stoves. The Holly conserved a great deal of fossil fuels over its production span and is still utilized in self-sufficient homes and off-grid retreats.

In the late 1970’s, Bill instructed a survivalist workshop in Philo, California, titled Back to Basics: Living off the land self-sufficiently. In this weekend course, he taught students the fundamentals of sustainability through cooking and construction, using only raw materials, found from the land.

In the early 1980’s, Bill was a frequent guest of host, Owen Span, on San Francisco’s talk-radio station, KGO810. The show featured instructions to off-grid living, urban survival tips and affordable tips to cutting utilities through conservation. Bill quickly earned the nickname Mr. Wilderness.

As developments in alternative energy came about, Bill altered his course, exploring the world of solar electric power or photovoltaics. In the mid 1980's Holly Solar began exclusively producing products for companies like Real Goods and other smaller alt-energy startups. As demand grew, Holly Solar supplied companies with custom manufactured goods designed to meet needs.

Holly Solar’s LED fixtures and designs can be found in sustainable, green homes and buildings, providing illumination, under Dark Sky compliance, in State and National Parks and in outdoor parking structures. Our products are used in television and film industries, in places of worship, installed in laboratories and hanging within military tents; even carried onboard NASA’s’ obiters.

To this day, Holly Solar is one of the oldest, reputable and remaining manufacturers of alternative energy equipment and we continue to produce affordable, sustainable solutions for clients worldwide.

Bill Hollibaugh is an artist, teacher and inventor. Inspired as a student and apprentice of R. Buckminster Fuller, Hollibaugh develops practical solutions for a sustainable future. With a BA in Fine Arts, a Lifetime Teaching Credential from the CCA and with skills ranging from carpentry to engineering, Bill Hollibaugh is a definitive example of modern day entrepreneur and craftsman.
